How can you make a difference?
- The purpose of this assignment is to produce monetary child poverty report – federal and states estimates – from the existing 2019 NBS report on Poverty and Inequality in Nigeria.
- This information with help Government and other key decision-makers both at Federal and State levels to improve policy design and implementation including poverty reduction strategies with focus on monetary child poverty.
- The comprehensive report on child poverty will be drafted through a re-iterative process between the consultant, the National Bureau of Statistics, the Ministry of Budget and National Planning and UNICEF Nigeria Social Policy Section.
Major Tasks to be accomplished by the consultant:
- The consultant will technically lead the process of production of monetary child poverty report. It is expected the following task from the consultant:
- Support NBS to use household survey data of monetary poverty to extract child poverty estimates for federal and disaggregated by states;
- Use statistical/econometric software (SPSS, STATA or R) to produce child poverty estimates, federal and states;
- Draft comprehensive child poverty report.
- Any specific tasks linked to Child poverty report production process as assigned by UNICEF, NBS and MFBNP.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have:
- A Master’s degree minimum, in development economics, public policy, or closely related field;
- Knowledge and understanding social and economic aspects of wellbeing, and how they relate to the Sustainable Development Goals framework;
- A minimum of 8 years’ work in applied policy areas with focus on the use of household survey data;
- Very good analytical and written communication skills;
- Sound knowledge of statistical/econometric software preferably SPSS, STATA or R;
- Proven ability to work under tight deadlines and drive for results;
- Fluency in English. Local working language of the duty station an asset.
- Interested individuals will make a proposal of a two-page maximum paper specifying the following four elements:
- Understanding of the terms of reference,
- The methodology including details road map, knowledge of statistical/econometric software, how the technical assistance will be provided to NBS and MFBNP in producing the report.
- Foreseen challenges and risks in the process and anticipated mitigation measures
